Teaching
David is committed to ensuring that his experience is passed on to the next generation. This includes informing them of the appropriate techniques and systems that they should use, but putting this in the context of excellent professional practice. He tries hard in his lectures to communicate his enthusiasm for the subject and the enjoyment he still gets from engineering geology.
David has provided invited lectures to students at:
- Imperial College
- Nottingham Trent University
- Brighton University
- Leeds University
- Newcastle University
David also teaches regularly on in house company courses, helping both to compile and to deliver the courses. This includes the encouragement and inculcation of new staff into the lecturing process. He provides a long term quality assurance of several of the courses to ensure that the taught material remains true to the original concept.
David was also Project manager for the in house Teaching Company Scheme, investigating and applying new procedures in the probabilistic geomechanics.
David has provided invited lectures to geological societies throughout the UK, but local amateur societies and regional groups of the Geological Society and Geotechnical Groups.
