EUROCODE 7

THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE

NEW EUROPEAN STANDARDS

INTO UK PRACTICE

The Eurocode suite of Standards is made up of 10 Standards as listed below;

further details are only provided on EC7 here.

The implementation date for all Eurocodes is March 2010 at the latest.

Eurocode 7 calls up a number of other Standards which are listed in

Attachments to Part 1 and Attachments to Part 2

The status of these Standards is given in accordance with the process

of approval and publication detailed at the bottom of the page.

You will see that this is a long list of documents, and it is not easy

for all practitioners to make themselves aware of the standards,

their content and the implications of their implication into UK practice.

I have established a series of training courses

to help brief individuals and companies as to the new standards

and their content.

Procedure for preparation and adoption of Standards

  • The requirement for a standard is identified and a work item is agreed.
  • A Drafting Committee is established
  • The Drafting Committee drafts the standards, through a number of Working Drafts which are not circulated widely
  • When content with the WD, the Committee sends a Draft International Standard for Enquiry
  • Enquiry = the Draft Standards being circulated for National Comment and Vote
  • Committee receives and considers and incorporates comments
  • Final Draft International Standard is circulated for Vote (no comments allowed)
  • CEN translate and publish the Standard (if vote positive)
  • Member States publish locally
  • Implementation in member states within 6 months
